The Makululu compound is one of the largest slums in the southern part of Africa. It is part of Kabwe, a city of more than 215,000 people, the fourth largest in the country. The area used to have lead and copper mines making the land, air and water highly polluted. Kabwe ranks among the world’s ten most polluted cities.
