Today, the Don Bosco Family around the world celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary — a day of grace, hope, and deep meaning in our Salesian tradition.
On this day in 1841, St. John Bosco began his first oratory, giving birth to a mission that continues to uplift, educate, and accompany young people everywhere. At Don Bosco Makululu, we joined together in prayer and celebration, entrusting our youth and our mission to Mary Immaculate. Her example of purity, trust, and openness to God inspires our daily work with the young, especially those most in need.
What does “Oratory” mean?
In the Salesian tradition, an oratory is a place where young people gather to learn, pray, and grow in faith. It’s a space for friendship, joy, and formation, inspired by St. John Bosco’s vision of offering youth a place of welcome and guidance. At Don Bosco Makululu, the oratory is one of the key pillars of our mission. Here, we welcome the most vulnerable children from the Makululu area, providing them with a safe environment where they can discover their potential, build lasting friendships, and experience the love and support they need to thrive.
